Die Biographie des wohl bekanntesten Historiographen der Römischen Kaiserzeit über seinen Schwiegervater Cn. Iulius Agricola bietet nicht nur tiefe Einblicke in die Struktur der kaiserzeitlichen Verfassungs- und Sozialordnung sowie den Aufbau des Römischen Reiches im 1. Jahrhundert n.Chr., sondern eröffnet exemplarisch auch das „kritische“ Geschichtsbild des Senators Tacitus hinsichtlich der Werteordnung dieser heute oft als „stabil“ empfundenen Phase des Römischen Reiches. Insofern werden ausgewählte Abschnitte dieser Biographie einerseits übersetzt und sprachliche Probleme erörtert, andererseits auch in den historischen Zusammenhang gestellt. Die lateinischen Texte werden in Kopie zur Verfügung gestellt.
