This seminar will introduce first-year students to the basics of literary studies - the tools of the trade, as it were. Participants will be taught the terms and methods of analysis and interpretation of texts in the three main literary genres, poetry, drama and narrative. A reader with primary texts will be provided in the first session.
Students are strongly urged to make time for the tutorial, which offers support in the organization of studies, practices strategies of research and the formal requirements of academic work and repeats material presented in class.
A reader containing the literary texts will be made available.

Student information |
The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
Active participation includes careful preparation of the seminar texts, contributions to the class discussions, the composition of two essays (ca. 1,200 words each) and passing an end-of-term quiz.
Regular attendance is expected, as class discussions are an integral part of the course's learning objectives. If you miss more than two sessions, you will be asked to make up for them in an interview.
