"Deutsch ist eine Verbzweitsprache mit Verbendstellung und freier Wortfolge". Dieser Titel eines Aufsatzes von Brigitta Haftka aus dem Jahr 1996 enthält widersprüchliche Aussagen über die Wortstellung in deutschen Sätzen. Jede dieser Aussagen ist jedoch für sich genommen richtig. Auf der einen Seite finden sich im Deutschen sowohl Sätze mit Zweit- als auch mit Endverbstellung. Auf der anderen Seite sind Satzglieder wie Subjekt, Objekt und Adverbial nicht auf eine bestimmte Position im Satz festgelegt, sondern können im Vorfeld, im Mittelfeld oder sogar im Nachfeld stehen. Auch im Mittelfeld, in dem mehrere Satzglieder stehen können, gibt es keine feste, sondern eine variable Satzgliedfolge.
Im Seminar werden die Wortstellungsregularitäten deutscher Sätze im Rahmen des topologischen Feldermodells erörtert. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt des Seminars ist die Wortstellungsvariation, die in der deutschen Gegenwartssprache zu beobachten ist. Zum einen werden ausgesuchte Variationsphänomene vorgestellt und diskutiert. Zum anderen wird versucht, variationssteuerende Faktoren aufzudecken.
In welcher Form ein Leistungsnachweis erworben werden kann, wird in der ersten Seminarsitzung bekannt gegeben.
