Das Blockseminar bietet eine kompakte Einführung in die Spracherwerbsforschung und ihre Methoden. In der Veranstaltung werden die typischen Entwicklungsschritte ("Meilensteine") von Kindern auf den verschiedenen sprachlichen Ebenen (Phonetik/Phonologie, Syntax, Semantik etc.) betrachtet, von der Geburt bis ins Grundschulalter. Dabei sollen in den Sitzungen auch gemeinsam konkrete Sprachdaten analysiert werden. Im Zusammenhang mit den empirischen Befunden werden verschiedene theoretische Modelle des Erstspracherwerbs vorgestellt, die unterschiedliche Antworten auf grundlegende Fragen geben, z. B. "Wie schaffen es Kinder, innerhalb weniger Jahre eine (oder mehrere) Sprachen zu erlernen?" oder "Sind Menschen 'vorprogrammiert' Sprache zu erwerben, oder tun sie dies mit Hilfe allgemeiner kognitiver Fähigkeiten?" Teilnehmende lernen - auch anhand einiger ausgewählter Studien - Methoden kennen, mit denen man Sprachproduktion und Sprachverständnis von Kindern in unterschiedlichen Altersstufen testen kann.
