This class is designed to read, view, and discuss 20th century adaptations of Shakespeare¿s plays in drama or film, analyzing the way in which they "test or challenge, revoke or destroy the intellectual foundation which makes a classic the formidable thing it has become" (Charles Marowitz).

Plays:

  • Stoppard, Tom, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
  • Stoppard, Tom, The Fifteen Minute Hamlet
  • Brecht, Bertolt, Coriolanus
  • Osborne, John, A Place Calling Itself Rome
  • Bond, Edward, Bingo

Films:

  • Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (Stoppard)
  • Der Rest ist Schweigen (Käutner)
  • Shakespeare in Love (Stoppard)
  • Coriolanus (Schall)
