This lecture course introduces students to major epochs of U.S. American literary history. Literature will be placed in historical and cultural contexts. Individual text interpretation functions to illustrate major literary developments from transcendentalism to postmodernism. Key concepts, key developments, and major authors are at the center of attention. Class requirements are active participation and final exam ( graded for old BA students).
