Regulation of Banks - Causes and Consequences

The focus of this seminar is on the justifications and effects of the regulation of the banking industry. The main questions which to be analyzed are:
Why do banks need to be regulated?
Which forms or instruments of banking regulation exist?
What are the effects of these regulatory instruments?
Several theoretical approaches to these questions will be examined and discussed.
