239860 I @ Cyberspace: Digital Storytelling (S) (SoSe 2012)

Inhalt, Kommentar

The British sociologist Ken Plummer comments on an apparent trend in 21st century storytelling, a tendency towards the visual: “Indeed stories have become increasingly visual – and a new ‘visual literacy’ is required to understand them” (136). Situating the "I", our sense of who we are and how we then choose to represent our identity has long since entered the web. Blogs and short films are the new media to negotiate the self and its relations to others, made available for users worldwide.
In this class, we will critically (re-) examine identity politics and (re-)locate them to the internet. We will investigate and discuss examples we find online, and, in a third step, come up with our own version of the "digital me".
