Online-Rollenspiele wie World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV oder Phantasy Star Online 2 zählen zu den aktuell bedeutendsten Computerspielen der Welt. Im Videospiel-Jargon bezeichnet man sie auch als Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPG). Also Online-Rollenspiele, bei denen gleichzeitig viele tausende Spielerinnen und Spieler online in einer fiktiven, virtuellen Welt aufeinandertreffen. Dabei ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass sich illegitime menschliche Verhaltensweisen (wie die Ausübung von Macht/Gewalt gegen andere Personen) auch in der Online-Welt reproduzieren und durch die hier vorliegenden „weltlichen“ Merkmale (z. B. Anonymität, selektive Identitätsbildung, beschleunigte Intimität) sich möglicherweise noch eher verbreiten.
In der Forschungswerkstatt möchten wir Prozesse sexualisierter Gewalt in Online-Rollenspielen näher beleuchten. Sexualisierte Gewalt bedeutet, dass Sexualität als Machtmittel eingesetzt wird. Hierunter fallen sexuelle Belästigung, sexuelle Nötigung oder auch Vergewaltigung.
Die Studierenden durchlaufen in dem Seminar einen angeleiteten Forschungsprozess von der Kondensation des Erkenntnisinteresses, der Ableitung von Fragestellung, Begründung und Erstellung von Erhebungsintrumenten, Planung des Feldzugangs, Erhebung und Auswertung qualitativer oder quantitativer Daten und Translation von Forschungsergebnissen.
