In this seminar, we will examine instances of the uncanny and the fantastic in a number of British and US-American television series, focusing on its impact on their protagonists, and their reactions and solutions to the unknown and incomprehensible. Looking at both the aesthetics of series as well as their characters, we will discuss how the subject and its relative world is constructed within series like /The Prisoner/ (1967), /Twin Peaks/ (1989) or /Life on Mars/ (2006) and how identity is negotiated in a decidedly conservative medium.
