Das Seminar untersucht ausgewählte Filme von David Lynch (u.a. Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Wild at Heart, Twin Peaks, Lost Highway, The Straight Story, Mulholland Drive). Besonderes Augenmerk gilt hierbei dem malerischen und poetisierenden Stil des Regisseurs. Das spezifisch filmische Erzählen, die Audiovisualität, evoziert intensive Stimmungen, die angesichts der oft fehlenden Handlungslogik auch inhaltlich relevant werden. Gerade die Interpretationsarbeit zu Lynch offenbart die Nachteile einer rein inhaltlich-strukturellen Analyse. Das Seminar versucht daher, emotionale Aspekte der Filmrezeption, stilistische und filmnarratologische Analyseverfahren zusammenzuführen, um den Verrätselungstendenzen in der Lynch-Forschung, die die Filme als uninterpetierbar festschreiben will, entgegenzuwirken.
Zu Semesterbeginn wird ein Reader bereitgestellt. Die erste Sitzung findet am 14.4. statt.

Die aktive Teilnahme erfordert die erfolgreiche Bearbeitung einer unbenoteten schriftlichen Abschlussprüfung, die die Seminardiskussionen und Readerinhalte aufgreift. Zusätzlich können benotete Einzelleistungen in Form von Hausarbeiten (20-25 Seiten) oder mündlichen Prüfungen erbracht werden, unbenotete Einzelleistungen für Medienwissenschaftler in Form verkürzter Hausarbeiten (10-12 Seiten).
