Die Computerspielnutzung von Jugendlichen wird in Öffentlichkeit und Alltagstheorie vornehmlich im Hinblick auf negative Wirkungen, wie Gewaltbereitschaft und Sucht thematisiert. Insbesondere gewalthaltige Actionspiele und Online-Rollenspiele befinden sich im Fokus der Medien. Im Gegensatz dazu werden in der wissenschaftlichen Literatur immer häufiger mögliche positive Wirkungen der Nutzung von Computerspielen auf die Persönlichkeitsentwicklung Jugendlicher diskutiert. Hier sollte die pädagogische Praxis ansetzen, will sie sich nicht zunehmend von der Lebenswelt Jugendlicher abkoppeln. Die ständig wachsende Vielfalt der Off- und Online-Computerspiele soll im Seminar differenziert analysiert werden. Um die Faszination von Jugendlichen an Computerspielen zu erklären soll die Vielzahl von Funktionen und Motiven der Nutzung von Computerspielen aufgezeigt und diskutiert werden. Des Weiteren sollen mögliche positive, sowie negative Wirkungen hinterfragt und medienpädagogische Handlungskonzepte für die Praxis gemeinsam entwickelt werden.
