Der Begriff "Eleganz" steht für ein ästhetisches Ideal in unserer heutigen Kultur. In dem kunsthistorischen Seminar werden zunächst die Wurzeln unseres heutigen Schönheitsideals zurück verfolgt, das uns in die Renaissance bzw. in die griechische Antike zurück führt und sich im Laufe des Barock, des Manierisms, der Romantik und des Biedermeier bis zur Moderne des 20. Jahrhunderts stetig gewandelt hat. Was bedeutet für uns heute "schön", was bezeichnen wir als "elegant"? Im zweiten Teil des Seminars werden von den Teilnehmenden aktuelle Beispiele aus den Bereichen von Kunst, Werbung und Produktdesign, die als Inbegriff von Eleganz gelten können, zusammen getragen und analysiert. Es entsteht ein Katalog ästhetischer Ausdrucksformen, der zum Ästhetik-Festival der Universität Bielefeld, das sich dem Thema "Eleganz" zuwenden wird, präsentiert werden soll.
Das Seminar ist für "Studieren ab 50" und für Teilnehmer/innen aller Fakultäten geöffnet, sofern Plätze frei sind.
