230596 Literature, Media and Intercultural Learning (GymGes) (S) (WiSe 2006/2007)

Contents, comment

In this course we will consider the interconnections between literature, media and intercultural learning in the classroom. We will examine the goals of using literary texts in the foreign language classroom and develop criteria for the selection of suitable texts. We will look at some short poems and short stories that might profitably be used in the Sekundarstufe I, and will then spend time looking at how to work with a novel in the Sekundarstufe II. Students will need to purchase the novel, which is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark Haddon, published 2004. Finally, we shall briefly consider how films might be used for teaching. Details of assessment will be announced in the first session.
