Nachdem Rawls Anfang der 70er Jahre durch seine "Theorie der Gerechtigkeit" nahezu die gesamte politische Philosophie seiner Zeit neu ausgerichtet hatte, war er in den Jahrzehnten darauf damit beschäftigt, auf Einwände zu reagieren und seine Theorie zu revidieren. Die Vorlesungsreihe "Politischer Liberalismus" formuliert eine Neufassung der ursprünglichen Theorie. Diese Neufassung soll in diesem Lektürekurs möglichst vollständig gelesen und diskutiert werden.
Für eine Leistungsbescheinigung (im BA-Studiengang) wird die schriftliche Bearbeitung von ca vier Einzelfragestellungen, für einen Leistungsnachweis (im Magister- oder Lehramts-Studiengang) eine Hausarbeit im Umfang von 12 - 15 Seiten, deren Fragestellung individuell abgesprochen wird, erwartet.

Es wird empfohlen, sich eine Ausgabe der Vorlesungen anzuschaffen, die in deutscher Übersetzung im Suhrkamp-Verlag veröffentlich wurden.
