Das römische Recht ist der Vorläufer des auf dem europäischen Kontinent und in weiten Teilen der Welt geltenden Zivilrechts. Die Vorlesung behandelt die äußere Geschichte des römischen Rechts und das römische Recht selbst. Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei das römische Privatrecht. Quellentexte werden mit Übersetzung zur Verfügung gestellt. Lateinkenntnisse sind nicht erforderlich.
Durch die erfolgreiche Teilnahme an einer Semesterabschlussklausur kann der kleine Grundlagenschein gem. § 21 Abs. 2 Nr. 3 StudPrO und wahlweise durch eine Hausarbeit der Leistungsnachweis gem. § 28 Abs. 2 Nr. 3 StudPrO (großer Grundlagenschein) erworben werden. Durch die Übernahme eines Kurzvortrages kann eine Bescheinigung über den Erwerb einer Schlüsselqualifikation gem. §§ 2 Abs. 3, 16, 49 Abs. 1 Nr. 4 StudPrO erworben werden.
