Das Proseminar besteht aus zwei Teilen: Teil I behandelt die Theorie der Fourierreihen, die aus Arbeiten von d'Alembert und Fourier zum Problem der schwingenden Saite entstand, und sich seitdem zu einer interessanten mathematischen Theorie mit zahlreichen Anwendungen entwickelt hat. Teil II behandelt die Gammafunktion als ein Beispiel einer elementaren Funktion, die in vielen verschiedenen Teilbereichen der Mathematik von grosser Bedeutung ist.

Da nur Vorkenntnisse aus Analysis I vorausgesetzt werden, wendet sich das Proseminar insbesondere an Studenten im 2. Semester
