Die Orthographie des Deutschen ist entgegen weitverbreiteter Auffassung ein überwiegend reguläres System. Sie geht im Kernbereich nicht auf willkürliche Festlegungen zurück, sondern repräsentiert verschiedene strukturelle Merkmale des Deutschen. So ist sie in der Lautstruktur des Deutschen fundiert, der Morphologie (also der Struktur deutscher Wörter), der Syntax (der Satzstruktur) und in Teilbereichen der Semantik (der Wortbedeutung). Diese systematischen Zusammenhänge zwischen der Orthographie und der grammatischen Struktur des Deutschen werden in dem Seminar erarbeitet. Ihre Kenntnis ist eine Voraussetzung der Untersuchung des Schriftspracherwerbs.
Dieses Seminar bildet zusammen mit dem Seminar von Guido Nottbusch "Schriftspracherwerb: Kognitive Grundlagen" (230224) und einem weiteren Seminar im kommenden Wintersemester einen Block im Rahmen des Modulpools. Bachelor-Studierende müssen daher alle drei Seminar besuchen (zus. 11 Leistungspunkte). In diesem Rahmen besteht dann auch die Möglichkeit, eine Bachelor-Arbeit zu schreiben.
