Die Bürgertumsforschung hat in den letzten beiden Jahrzehnten deutliche Fortschritte gemacht. Standen lange Zeit die Thesen von einem deutschen "Defizit an Bürgerlichkeit" und, damit verbunden, dem "deutschen Sonderweg" im Zentrum des Interesses, haben die groß angelegten Forschungsprojekte der 80er und 90er Jahre dieses Bild nachhaltig relativiert. Der Kurs verfolgt die Absicht, einen Überblick über Thesen, Ergebnisse und Ansätze auf diesem Feld der Forschung zu geben.
