Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg fand sich die deutsche Gesellschaft in ihren Grundlagen erschüttert. Extreme Gewalterfahrungen waren zu verarbeiten, ungekannte Freiheiten waren auszuhalten, stabile Lebensverhältnisse wurden heftig ersehnt, neue Lebensentwürfe ausprobiert. Den parallelen Wahrnehmungen eines grenzenlosen Experimentierfeldes und einer permanenten Gefährdung soll nachgegangen werden, um die gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen Verwerfungen und Chancen jenseits der Politik- und Wirtschaftsgeschichte zu ergründen
