Die Geschichte der Römischen Republik gehört zu den großen Themen der Altertumswissenschaft. Die Vorlesung verfolgt die Geschichte Roms von den etruskischen Anfängen über die Etablierung der Republik im späten 6. Jahrhundert bis zur Erringung der Vorherrschaft im westlichen Mittelmeerraum im Krieg gegen Hannibal. Ein besonderes Interesse gilt den Zusammenhängen zwischen äußerer und innerer Entwicklung der Stadt.
