This seminar will prepare its participants for their practicum and therefore concentrate on a variety of school- and teaching-related aspects.
First, we will be considering the role of classroom observation and explore a number of relevant observation tasks. Then, the focus will be on lesson planning and the evaluation of lesson plans with regard to topic, task design, timing, classroom organisation and the use of media. In this context, the requirements of the curriculum will also come into view. In addition, we will deal with assessment and grading and mark authentic test papers in accordance with the guidelines provided in the curriculum.
Finally, the focus will be on practical aspects that are related to soft skills, like approaching colleagues whose classes we would like to observe, making the most of what we have got, or dealing with ¿stage fright¿.
Participants are expected to design a plan for a lesson phase and to put it to the test with the seminar group.
