Die Vorlesung gehört zum Pflichtfachstoff des Zivilrechts. Sie vermittelt das grundlegende Wissen im Bereich des Erbrechts. Von ihrer Systematik her orientiert sich die Veranstaltung an dem prüfungsrelevanten Katalog des § 4a Nr. 1 lit. c JAO mit den Bereichen: Erbfolge, rechtliche Stellung des Erben, Testament, Erbvertrag und Erbschein. Im Vordergrund stehen soll dabei vor allem auch die Verzahnung des Erbrechts mit den anderen Büchern des BGB, wie sie in den Zivilrechtsklausuren des 1. Staatsexamens regelmäßig geprüft wird.
