Englisch für Chemiker

Ziele:

  • Lesen und verstehen englischer Publikationen
  • Erarbeitung einer Richtlinie zum wissenschaftlichen Schreiben im Englischen.
  • Erarbeitung englischer Fachbegriffe und deren Übersetzung

Die Erarbeitung der angestrebten Ziele erfolgt hauptsächlich über die Bearbeitung von Publikationen und wissenschaftlichen Texten aus der Chemie und Biochemie.

English for chemists

Goals:

  • Reading and understanding of scientific texts
  • Overview of guiding principles how to write a scientific text in English correctly
  • Translation of technical terms into german

The given goals are achieved by examining scientific texts containing chemical and biochemical topics.

Class language is English (Level B2+ of the Common European Framework). The course includes all four skills of English (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).

Students attending regularly, participating actively in class and completing the exercises and tasks will be awarded 3 ECTS.

Teilnehmer werden entsprechend der Fachzugehörigkeit und ihrem individuellen Leistungsniveau ausgewählt.
Bei Teilnehmerüberhang entscheidet das Los.

Mindestens 6 Jahre Schulenglisch werden vorausgesetzt.

Student information

In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.


Regular participation in the sessions plus the completion of a portfolio of assigned writing tasks that include:

- Two (2) short texts (one 250 words and one about 500 words)
- One final term paper (1000 - 1500 words)
