Das Thema "Gewalt in den Medien" stellt ein Schlüsselthema der Medienpädagogik dar. Die Debatten über die Fernsehserie "Power Rangers" im Kinderprogramm von RTL oder den Amoklauf in Erfurt sind dafür prägnante Beispiele. Oftmals werden dabei die (potenziellen) Gewalttaten kausal mit dem vorherigen Genuss von Medieninhalten erklärt. Welchen wissenschaftlichen Erklärungswert solche und andere Annahmen haben, soll Inhalt des Seminars sein. Geplant ist ein Vorgehen in zwei Schritten: 1) Die Vorstellung und Diskussion der zentralen Ansätze der Medienwirkungsforschung zum Thema und 2)die Analyse von gewalthaltigen Inhalten in den Medien (vom Fernsehen über das Radio bis hin zu Computer und Internet). Dieser zweite Schritt wird vor allem im Rahmen von Gruppenarbeiten der teilnehmenden Studierenden erarbeitet.
