This class will start with a focus on an in-depth analysis and interpretation of Shakespeare´s Hamlet-text and then view and analyse five major filmic representations as examples of differently adapted and contextualized versions of the play, i.e.

Laurence Olivier, Hamlet ...(1948)
Tony Richardson, Hamlet. .(1969)
Franco Zeffirelli, Hamlet ... (1990)
Kenneth Branagh, Hamlet ... (1996)
Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (1980 )

2 credit points can be obtained by giving a presentation in class, 3 credit points by writing a
film analysis of one of the above mentioned films.
