Der amerikanische Philosoph und Forscher Charles Sanders Peirce (1839-1914) zählt zu den vielseitigsten Denkern. Laut Karl Popper war er "einer der größten Philosophen aller Zeiten", laut Bertrand Russell ¿einer der originellsten Köpfe des späten 19. Jahrhunderts, und ohne Zweifel der größte amerikanische Denker, den es je gab¿.
Schwerpunkte des Seminars sind: (1) Peirces Pragmatismus oder "Pragmatizismus" (Peirce zählt neben William James und John Dewey zu dessen Gründervätern); (2) Peirces Zeichentheorie (die Semiotik führt sich ebenfalls auf ihn - und auf Ferdinand de Saussure - zurück); (3) Peirce als Forscher und Wissenschaftstheoretiker.Eine Leistungsbescheinigung (BA- oder Master of Education-Studiengang) wird ausgestellt für Übungen und Klausur.
Ein Leistungsnachweis (Magister- oder Lehramts-Studiengänge) wird ausgestellt für eine Hausarbeit.
