231150 21st century pop culture and its societal impacts (StGr) (SoSe 2024)

Contents, comment

Music, film, television - pop culture surrounds us, influencing the way we think, feel, and connect. In our study group, we will explore the impact of 21st century pop culture trends on young people. Together, we will delve into the nuances of pop culture, seeking to define its essence and examining its profound impact on society. Our journey will encompass the transformative evolution of pop culture throughout the 21st century, dissecting its manifestations in pop music, pop movies and pop TV shows. As we unravel the fabric of what makes something 'popular' and an integral part of pop culture, we will take a look at these phenomena through various lenses. Working with Feminist and Gender Theory we want to provide insights into the complex interplay between pop culture and societal constructs.

As this is a student-led group, all the participants can and should help to shape the program we will follow, and everyone will be expected to contribute by leading group discussions, doing research, and suggesting material. The specific topics will be discussed and decided on together in the group during our first session.
