Die kompetente Auseinandersetzung mit wirtschafts- und sozialpolitischen Problemen der Gegenwart im Unterricht stellt einen zentralen Bestandteil sozialwissenschaftlicher Lehrkompetenz dar. Ziel des Seminars ist es deshalb zum einen, einige zur Zeit in der politischen Öffentlichkeit diskutierte wirtschafts- und sozialpolitische Herausforderungen aus wissenschaftlicher Perspektive zu analysieren und dabei zentrale sozialwissenschaftliche Kategorien, Denkschemata, Positionen, Theorien, Urteilskriterien und Zielkonflikte herauszuarbeiten. Denkbare Themenfelder sind Alterssicherungspolitik, Gesundheitspolitik, Arbeitsmarktpolitik, Steuerpolitik, Energiepolitik, Wettbewerbspolitik, Geldpolitik. Zum anderen soll exemplarisch aufgezeigt werden, wie wirtschafts- und sozialpolitische Inhalte unter Berücksichtigung ausgewählter didaktischer Ziele (Urteils- und Mitbestimmungsfähigkeit) und Prinzipien (Kontroversität, Problemorientierung, Gestaltungsorientierung, Wissenschaftsorientierung, Kategoriale Bildung) sinnvoll im Unterricht aufbereitet werden können. Geprüft wird dabei auch, inwieweit aktuelle Schulbücher diesen didaktischen Prinzipien gerecht werden.

Aktive Mitarbeit in den einzelnen Veranstaltungen, vorbereitende Lektüre (auch in Englisch), aktive Beteiligung an der Ergebnissicherung, Abschluss Grundstudium bzw. Fachdidaktische Basis, Besuch der Einführung in die Didaktik der sozialwissenschaftlichen Bildung.
