Die Vorlesung stellt zunächst die Geschichte der Politischen Bildung in Deutschland vor und erläutert anschließend zentrale Bildungsziele (z.B. Mündigkeit, Urteilskompetenz, Handlungskompetenz) sowie verschiedene theoretische Konzeptionen der politischen, der ökonomischen und der sozialwissenschaftlichen Bildung. Weil das, was politische / ökonomische / sozialwissenschaftliche Bildung sein soll, didaktisch, gesellschaftlich und politisch zum Teil sehr umstritten ist, wird insbesondere auch auf die damit verbundenen fachdidaktischen Kontroversen eingegangen sowie auf die Herausforderung der Integration verschiedener wissenschaftlicher Disziplinen im Fach Sozialwissenschaften. Des Weiteren werden wesentliche fachdidaktische Prinzipien zur Planung und Gestaltung sozialwissenschaftlicher Bildungsprozesse verdeutlicht: Problemorientierung, Kontroversität, Situationsorientierung, Wissenschaftsorientierung, Handlungsorientierung, Perspektivenwechsel und das Prinzip der kriteriengeleiteten Urteilsbildung. Ein weiteres Thema ist die Bedeutung der Diagnostik für sozialwissenschaftliche Bildungsprozesse und die fachdidaktische Analyse von subjektiven politischen / sozialen / ökonomischen Vorstellungen (Präkonzepte), mit denen Lernende in den Unterricht kommen.
