In the 19th century a number of sciences circulated, some of them are no longer considered sciences any longer. This course will look at sciences from mathematics to evolutionary theory to mesmerism to race science through to social sciences. We will analyse how literature and science interacted and how literary texts took up scientific theories. We will further study the composition of texts literary and scientific at that time.
