300658 Critical praxis in socialanthropological and sociological fieldwork: feminist, phenomelogical and reflexive approaches (S) (WiSe 2021/2022)

Contents, comment

This module explores theoretical and methodological approaches in social anthropology that offer a critical lens to the discipline. Drawing from different fieldwork case studies, the module explores research praxis that interrogates power structures in fieldwork by foregrounding the perspectives and experiences of people that occupy historically marginalized positions. The approaches that will be discussed are feminist standpoint theory, institutional ethnography, phenomenological analysis, relational and multi-sited ethnogrpahy; broader connections to other reflexive methodologies will also be made. During the module we will also discuss the influence of critical praxis on the method of inquiry, the role of the researcher in the fieldwork, and the question of restitution.
