Molekulare Zellbiologie ist gekennzeichnet durch zwei faszinierende Aspekte, einerseits die scheinbar endlose Vielfalt lebender Systeme und andererseits die fundamentalen Ähnlichkeiten der Mechanismen, die dem zellulä-ren Funktionieren zugrunde liegen. Beispielhaft werden diese beiden Aspekte aufbauend auf den im Basismodul des ersten Semesters vermittelten Basiskenntnissen herausgearbeitet, wobei in zwei- bis vierwöchigen Abschnitten die thematisch erweiterte Grundlagen der biochemischen Physiologie, Molekularbiologie, Mikrobiologie, Genetik und Genomforschung theoretisch und praktisch erarbeitet werden. Es werden Versuche zu folgenden Themen durchgeführt: Enzyme, Membrantransport, Proteinreinigung; Bakterienanzucht; Isolierung, Trennung, Nachweis und Verdau von Plasmid-DNA; Mechanismen der Genaktivierung; Transfomation von Bakterien und Pflanzen; Extraktion von genomischer DNA, Polymerasekettenreaktion (PCR) zur spezifischen DNA-Amplifikation und Nutzung von Reportergenen zur Promotoranalyse.
