Die Wortbildung ist der Teilbereich der Morphologie, der sich mit Fragen zur Bildung bzw. Entstehung neuer Wörter beschäftigt. Durch Wortbildung entstehen neue komplexe Wörter auf der Basis bereits vorhandenen Sprachmaterials.
Nach der Auffrischung von Grundlagenwissen werden im Seminar weitergehende Fragen zu den Wortbildungsarten Komposition, Derivation und Konversion behandelt, wobei sowohl synchrone, systematische als auch diachrone Aspekte thematisiert und diskutiert werden. Im Mittelpunkt stehen u.a. Fragen zu Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschieden der verschiedenen Wortbildungsarten, zur Produktivität in der Wortbildung und zur sprachhistorischen Entwicklung in diesem morphologischen Teilbereich.
