Der Kurs bietet zweierlei: zum einen eine Wissenssoziologie von Textgattungen, die differenzierungstheoretisch gesehen irgendwo "zwischen" Wissenschaft und Massenmedien liegen (soziologische Zeitdiagnosen, Interview mit Wissenschaftlern, Berichte über deren Forschungen, etc.), zum anderen eine Einführung in die Regeln journalistischer Wissenschaftsberichterstattung mit dem Ziel, die Kursteilnehmer zu eigenen Beiträgen dieses Typs zu befähigen. Zu den Teilnahmebedingungen des Kurses gehört die erfolgreiche Abfassung eines kleinen Probetextes, der spätestens gegen Ende der Semesterferien vorliegen soll. Auf Stud-IP registrierte Interessenten werden über die Einzelheiten dieser Vorauswahl, eingeschlossen ihr eigenes Bestehen/Nichtbestehen, rechtzeitig informiert.
