Die Rassenhygiene wird von der sonderpädagogischen Historiografie als Perversion der Sonderpädagogik und als Missbrauch der Sonderschule in der NS-Zeit dargestellt, gegen die Hilfsschullehrkräfte Widerstand geleistet haben. Auf der Grundlage umfangreicher Quellenforschung insbesondere zu Karl Tornow wird im Seminar eine andere Sicht der Zusammenhänge entwickelt. Im Seminar werden die gesetzlichen Grundlagen für die Zwangssterilisation der „angeboren Schwachsinnigen“ in der NS-Zeit dargestellt, ein Propagandafilm des Rassenpolitischen Amtes der NSDAP gezeigt, Einblicke in Unterrichtsmaterialien für den rassenhygienischen Unterricht in der Sonderschule sowie in die beanspruchte Beteiligung der Sonderschullehrer an der Umsetzung der rassenhygienischen Vorgaben des NS-Staats gegeben..
Als Arbeitsformen sind im Seminar Plenumsdiskussionen, Partner- und Kleingruppenarbeit vorgesehen. Grundlage für die Seminararbeit stellt ein Reader dar, der am ersten Seminartag im Seminar verkauft (13,50 €) wird. Für die aktive Teilnahme ist die Durcharbeitung aller Readertexte und die mündliche Präsentation eines Teils des Schulbuches „Erbe und Schicksal“ im Seminar erforderlich.
