400008 Seminar Series Public Health in Times of War (IS) (SoSe 2022)

War in Europe was widely perceived as a problem of the past. Consequently, European
Schools Public Health have taught little about war and its consequences for population
health. This has changed with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the accompanying war
crimes against civilians.
This brief seminar series with lecturers from the European region will start to fill gaps in
public health curricula which have become obvious since the start of Russia’s war. When
relatin to the situation to the situation in Ukraine and its neighbours, and when
assessing health risks, lecturers will draw explicit parallels to
relevant public health challenges in other world regions, but also
to relevant non-war settings.

The seminar series is organised by Bielefeld School of Public
Health and the PH-LENS research group, in association with the
Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region
(ASPHER). The lectures will take place on Wednesdays 18:00-19:00
hrs CEST by Zoom. Students of all ASPHER member schools are
