This course will be offered online (in a synchronous form).
In this course, we will focus on different theories (socio-cultural and critical literacies, multiliteracy, social justice education etc.) about sociocultural and critical learning in the English classroom and will review and reflect on specific sociocultural and critical lesson frameworks and practices. Our emphasis will be put on sociopolitical issues (racism, gender representation, climate crisis etc.) and ways to introduce these in ELT in the example of specific lesson designs. Furthermore, the seminar will be particularly centered around the digital world and its impact on our lessons –how (and why) we can make digital tools not only visible but interesting and of benefit in ELT.
