Das Seminar ist ein Versuch, die Gedankengeschichte der Informatik von einem übergeordneten Standpunkt aus zu behandeln. Dabei sollen fachlich-inhaltliche Gesichtspunkte der Entwicklung und ihr historischer Zusammenhang im Vordergrund stehen. Da eine umfassende Behandlung des Themas im Rahmen der Veranstaltung kaum möglich ist, können ausgewählte Schwerpunkte nach den Interessen der Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer angesprochen werden. Mögliche Themen (die nur als Anregung verstanden werden sollten) sind z.B. "Geschichte der Programmiersprachen", "Die Differenzmaschine von Babbage", "Rechnen mit Strom", "Geschichte der KI", etc.
Das Seminar wendet sich an Studierende im Grundstudium mit Interesse an den Wurzeln und der Entwicklung "ihrer" Fachdisziplin. Vorausgesetzt wird die Bereitschaft, sich eigenständig und mit selbst recherchierten Quellen einem Thema zu nähern. Die Veranstalter geben dazu bei Bedarf gern Hilfestellung. Der Stoff wird in Form von ausgearbeiteten Vorträgen vorgestellt und diskutiert.
