Nicht nur für die Erforschung der vormodernen Geschichte ist die Fähigkeit von Nutzen, Handschriften lesen zu können. Bis weit ins 20. Jahrhundert hinein sind viele Quellen, die Ihnen bei der Archivarbeit begegnen, vollständig oder in weiten Teilen handschriftlich verfasst. Im Seminar wollen wir grundlegende Prinzipien der Arbeit mit Handschriften kennen lernen und uns in die verschiedenen, miteinander verwandten Schrifttypen einlesen. Durch regelmäßige Anwendung an interessanten Inhalten sollen diese Fertigkeiten dann gemeinsam weiter eingeübt werden.
Wir werden deshalb unterschiedliche Texte (Akten, Briefe) aus verschiedenen Sachzusammenhängen der Zeit zwischen 1830 und 1920 lesen (Briefe von Auswanderern in die USA aus der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts; staatsanwaltliche Akten eines Mordfalls des Jahres 1882; Feldpostbriefe aus dem 1. Weltkrieg; Texte zur Revolution 1918/19).
