Die Vorlesung gibt anhand ausgewählter Themen einen Überblick über die jüngere Forschung zum Thema "internationale Beziehungen" im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert. Es werden einerseits Konzepte wie Transnationalität oder Kulturgeschichte der internationalen Beziehungen diskutiert. Andererseits geht es um Probleme wie Globalisierung oder Kolonialismus/Imperialismus, wobei auch hier die Frage aufgeworfen wird, welche Konzepte von innerer sozialer Ordnung im Wechselspiel zwischen Metropole und Kolonie die klassische Gegenüberstellung von Innen / Außen unterliefen.
