230568 That which doesn’t rhyme with itself! -- Introduction to 21st-Century American Poetry (S) (WiSe 2021/2022)

Short comment

Schwerpunkt: American Studies

Contents, comment

Exploring the possibilities of poetry in the study and understanding of the United States in the 21st century, That which doesn’t rhyme with itself! introduces some of the ways contemporary US poetry has continued and/or departed from the poetic trends that came before it. The seminar further introduces new poetry, including digital, multimedia and experimental, Instagram/Twitter, migrant and ethnic, eco-, and (the revival of) political and protest poetry. In this seminar, we will have the chance to read poetry together and alone, to listen to and watch poets as they read and perform their work and to write short reflection essays about them.

Please note that the seminar will be both reading- and writing-intensive and will entail a wide range of theoretical and analytical readings and discussions.

Please check this entry regularly for updates.
