291224 Comparative Criminal Law (S) (WiSe 2017/2018)

Contents, comment

The comparative method is widely used to put one's own law in an international and cultural perspective. What can be ordinary in one country, tend to be extraordinary in another. It deepens the understanding of one's own law, to look at another country's laws. Furthermore, it could offer alternatives for legal problems.

In this curses, the comparative method will be introduced. Most of the attention will focus on methodology, with a lot of examples. This will prepare the students to write a comparative essay.

Requirements for participation, required level

At least two, but preferable three, near native language skills. To compare different legal systems / laws, students will have to search for and analyze law and literature in other languages than German.
