In this class, we will discuss connections between language and various forms of resistance and power. In doing so, we will study how language use is used as an act of resistance. By tracing and working with case studies from across the globe, we would study the implications of migration, mobility, social class, gender, and cultural and ethnic backgrounds on how language use defies power structures.
