Das Modul ist für StudentInnen gedacht, die schon Vorkenntnisse im Bereich der Mikrobiologie haben. Es werden Phagen für das Bakterium Serratia marcescens isoliert und charakterisiert. Serratia marcescens ist ein opportunistisch pathogenes Bakterium , das vor allem bei immungeschwächten Personen z.B. auf Intensivstationen und auf Frühgeborenenstationen zu schweren Infektionen führt. Das Bakterium ist deshalb in die Risikogruppe 2 eingestuft. Die Phagen werden aus Umweltproben isoliert und charakterisiert mit Schwerpunkt auf einen Einsatz als potentielle Therapiephagen. Die isolierten Phagen werden der Therapiephagenbank der DSMZ zur Verfügung gestellt (https://www.dsmz.de/de/start/aktuelles/phagen-infoseite/phagen-an-der-dsmz.html).
