Following the concept of film literacy, this seminar will address both the interpretation as well as the production of film for the development of foreign language and other related competences. First, we will address (especially narrative) film as a form of sense-making and communication. Next, we will look at why film can enrich classroom teaching and learning, drawing not only on current theory, but also the core curriculum of North Rhine-Westphalia and studies on young Germans’ film behaviors. Finally, we develop different approaches and techniques for integrating film and film-making in the EFL classroom, from film selection to lesson planning and task design.

The course is structured on the Lernraum+ and requires independent study, collaborative work on module tasks and 'attendance' on Zoom every three weeks.
