241107 Introduction to fluid dynamics (S) (SoSe 2025)

This seminar will focus on partial differential equations of fundamental importance in fluid dynamics, specifically the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations, which describe the motion of perfect and viscous fluid flows, respectively. Despite extensive research, many problems related to fluid equations remain unresolved.

We will begin with the derivation of mathematical models for fluid flows and a discussion of classical existence and uniqueness results for the incompressible models. Following this, we will explore topics such as stationary problems, the variational approach to Euler equations, and the well-posedness and incompressible limit of compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The specific topics covered will be tailored to match the participants' levels and interests.
