230020 Paralinguistic and Extralinguistic Prosody (S) (SoSe 2021)

Contents, comment

The linguistic aspect of prosody is well-studied and addressed frequently in academic course on prosody. The role of extralinguistic and paralinguistic factors is, however, generally ignored.
In this course, we will discuss the interplay between prosodic realization and paralinguistic variables such as emotion e.g. the prosody of happiness, anger, sadness, angst etc. We will also review the effect of extralinguistic factors such as gender and age on prosody.
