Morphology is a central area of descriptive linguistics next to phonetics and phonology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. This course will deal with the morphological structure of the English language as well as the processes underlying these structures. As students you will get to know fundamental morphological processes such inflection, derivation, and compounding, and look at the underlying rules and principles of English word formation and historical dimension of morphology and word formation.
