Die Veranstaltung führt in die wissenschaftliche Psychologie ein. Historisch orientiert werden wesentliche Schulrichtungen psychologischen Forschens (z.B. Anfänge der Experimentellen Psychologie im 19. Jahrhundert, Psychoanalyse, Behaviorismus, Kognitive Psychologie) sowie die mit ihnen verbundenen Fachgebiete (z.B. Allgemeine Psychologie, Persönlichkeitspsychologie, Klinische Psychologie) vorgestellt.
Die Vorlesung besteht aus mehreren Einheiten (VLEs). Chronologisch fortschreitend wird ca. alle 2 Wochen eine VLE mit Folien (PDF) und einem zugehörigem Skript für angemeldete Teilnehmende im Lernraum unter "Dokumente" veröffentlicht. Die Vorlesung soll nur in Präsenz stattfinden (Stand: Juno 2022).

Die Vorlesung richtet sich an Studienanfänger/innen des B.Sc. Studiums Psychologie (Kern- und Nebenfach) der Universität Bielefeld. Der Leistungspunkterwerb ist nur für diese Gruppe möglich.
